"I Am Woman!", 24” x 24”, multimedia, 2018

Since I returned to my studio in Oakland, CA from Chapala, MX, I’ve been working on new paintings in my series "Poems in Color". It has been a particular challenge and pleasure to work with the two poems I'm sharing with you here, as these have been my companions for years:
"Phenomenal Woman" a poem by Maya Angelou (https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/48985/phenomenal-woman) inspired the piece entitled "I Am Woman!".
"Breaking Surface", a poem by Mark Nepo (http://www.marknepo.com/poems_breaking.php) inspired to create a larger piece entitled "Self Portrait".
Both paintings are available.

For the last few months I’ve been working with Art21 a wonderful foundry in Zapopan, Guadalajara, MX. I’m learning so much from these generous professionals. This is the small indoor studio where they work on Polymer pieces.
How wonderful it is when a collector sends me a photo of my art in their new home!
In sculpting I approach every medium as a carver uncovering what is within the material and myself. In stone I use chisels, mallets, grinding and cutting wheels; in clay - knives, cutting wire, and wooden blocks.
I’m introducing some new work in my series Poems in Color. Come read about it!
