Hello all lovers of art and poetry!!

I just finished my series Painted Poems. This is a project I’ve been dreaming about for the last 10 year. The idea was to dialogue 3-ways: 2 artists and 1 chosen poem (poet).

In mid-2016 I proposed this idea to my artist friend Adriana Diaz. We began working on it on August 14, 2016. We chose a poem, retreated to our own studios and created/translated the poem into a painting. Every 6-7 weeks we got back together to choose another poem. We kept meeting and working like this for a year and a half. The end result is a body of work that includes sixteen paintings and eight poems (from the US, Germany, Persia, Israel, Argentina).

This is my 8th and last poem of the series. My body of work for this series is on my website: www.zahavasherez.com/Paintings/Painted Poems

We will be exhibiting the project as a 2-person show in April 2019, Poetry Month, at the ACCI Gallery in Berkeley, CA, USA (www.accigallery.com)

“Tefilat Adam”/“Humanity's Prayer"
My God, My God, I pray that these things never end,
The sand and the sea,
The rustle of the waters,
Lightning of the Heavens,
The prayer of Man.
by Hannah Senesh (Israeli Poet and Heroin)

Painting: “Tefilat Adam”, Clayprint with mixed media (acrylics, oil pastels, pain sticks, chalk) on board, 2018, 20”x20”

For the last few months I’ve been working with Art21 a wonderful foundry in Zapopan, Guadalajara, MX. I’m learning so much from these generous professionals. This is the small indoor studio where they work on Polymer pieces.
How wonderful it is when a collector sends me a photo of my art in their new home!
In sculpting I approach every medium as a carver uncovering what is within the material and myself. In stone I use chisels, mallets, grinding and cutting wheels; in clay - knives, cutting wire, and wooden blocks.
I’m introducing some new work in my series Poems in Color. Come read about it!
