Embraced by Mexico!

Hello collectors, supporters, and friends,

I hope your hearts and your loved ones are well and joyful, despite the seemingly chaotic reality we face.

Here in my little corner of Chapala, Mexico, life continues to feel pretty magical. And professionally, this April 2025 has shaped up to be a month filled with exciting developments.

In this post, I am focusing on one of these events, something truly fun and special that happened recently.

Artistas Plasticos y Excultores

I am honored, overjoyed, and proud to share that I was invited to participate in a celebration honoring the iconic Mexican master artist Rufino Tamayo (https://www.artic.edu/artists/36878/rufino-tamayo ).

ZaHaVa with curator Artemio Garcia Uribe

This delightful project was initiated three and a half years ago by Nancy Mayagoitia, a curator from Oaxaca. Her team created large plexiglass slices of watermelons, one of Tamayo’s signature images. He viewed the watermelon slice as a representation of the beautiful and joyous smile of the Mexican people.

Out of 11 artists only 3 were featured in the two very large screens. I was one of them. It was indescribable to see myself, every few minutes, displayed up there to be seen by over 300 people that attended these celebrations!

Nancy’s initial vision was to commission 30 artists from the State of Oaxaca to paint 30 watermelon slices for a two-month exhibition. Three and a half years later, this project continues to thrive, with other states joining in and inviting local artists to contribute alongside the original group.

To me, being selected as one of just eleven artists from the State of Jalisco was both thrilling and deeply meaningful. With four countries now embracing me I feel more than ever like a true citizen of the universe—an identity that beautifully echoes the spirit and message behind my work.

This coincided with the unveiling of the sculptures in the Sculptural Trail (Ruta Escultórica). What a night!!

Mexico City and Guadalajara are becoming internationally recognized leading art centers.
